- Soak the tamarind in a little bit of water for about 10 minutes
- Squeeze the soaked tamarind well
- Bring the tamarind to a boil and add the tomatoes and salt
- Boil the ingredients together till the tomatoes are cooked nicely
- As the tomatoes are cooking, grind the pepper and red chilli and mix the powder well
- Add the mix to the pan of boiling tomatoes
- Add some more water
- Let the mixture come to a nice boil
- Garnish the rasam with some coriander
