Carnival By Tresind, the illustrious Dubai-based restaurant celebrated for redefining Indian cuisine, has graced the shores of Mumbai. Nestled in the heart of Santacruz, this award-winning establishment promises to deliver a dining experience that marries tradition with innovation. Spearheaded by Bhupender Nath, the Founder & Managing Director, Carnival By Tresind is poised to enchant Indian food lovers with its unique and contemporary approach to classic Indian dishes.
From the moment you step inside, you're transported to a world where culinary artistry meets theatrical flair. Imagine waiting for your meal while a well-coiffed mentalist dazzles you with mind-bending tricks, unlocking your phone with psychological wizardry and pulling signed cards from his wallet. The bartenders, donned in eerie masks with glowing red accents, add an element of thrill, ensuring every sip of your expertly crafted cocktail is an experience in itself.
Ambience
The minute we entered Carnival By Tresind, we were greeted by a group of men behind the bar with their faces covered in neon-toned masks, making us feel intrigued and a bit scared at the same time. This 120-seater restaurant shares its vibrant energy with its neighbouring restaurant, Avatara. Both establishments first garnered accolades in Dubai before making Mumbai their second home.
The restaurant's ambience is meticulously crafted, combining opulent rose gold and leather accents with whimsical carnival-themed elements. The metal abstracts evoke the spirit of Dubai, seamlessly blending into Mumbai's lively dining scene. Bartenders in neon-lit masks add a touch of theatricality, ensuring that every moment spent here is both fun and memorable.
What we tried
We took a seat and Rahul Kamath, the Corporate Beverage Head, introduced himself while also taking us through their cocktail book. During our conversation with Kamath, we learned that the team has been making in-house liqueurs and we sampled some of them. The cocktail menu at Tresind is inspired by carnivals from across the world. We ordered a vodka-based Flower Power, which draws inspiration from the Nice Carnival. Garnished with a pickled grape, it was a well-made concoction with green apple and grapes lending their sweet and tart taste profile. Another favourite off the menu was the Chica Picante. A fiery cocktail that blends premium tequila, clarified corn, zesty yuzu kosho, and a splash of lime. Inspired by the vibrant spirit of Barranquilla's carnival, "Chica Picante" is a celebration in every sip.
Our culinary journey at Carnival By Tresind was nothing short of extraordinary. The menu is a testament to the restaurant's commitment to innovation, featuring dishes that push. We began our meal with a Chaat Sundae, which was an icy cold delight, featuring a khatta-meetha mint and tamarind granita topped with a yoghurt ice cream disc, sprinkled with sev and pomegranate. Next up, we savoured Butter Pepper Garlic Prawns, which was expertly prepared tableside by the chef. For mains we ordered the Champaran-style Carnitas, which is handi-cooked mutton classic with a pork base, served with tortillas and loads of fun Mexican-inspired condiments. And not to forget the highlight of the meal was the Filter Coffee Tiramisu served alongside Bailey's ice cream, offering a decadent and satisfying conclusion to our meal.
Verdict
Carnival By Tresind is more than just a restaurant; it is an experience in itself. From the vibrant ambience to the innovative dishes and theatrical presentations, every aspect stands out. If you're in Mumbai and looking for a dining experience that pushes the boundaries of traditional Indian cuisine while offering a fun and luxurious atmosphere, Carnival By Tresind is the place to be.
