Get bready with Mumbai’s latest outpost Veronica’s by the folks behind Bombay Canteen and O Pedro
Located inside the former St Jude’s Bakery, the deli serves kombucha on tap, artisanal coffees and wine alongside some delicious sandwiches and buttery croissants.
Paying homage to the beloved St. Jude Bakery and keeping up with its history, Veronica's is the new hotspot in Bandra’s Ranwar Village. The cafe sticks to the warmth of the original space and brings back the nostalgia associated with it. The deli is a place for some great sandwiches that can be paired with either coffee or wine depending on your mood and choice.
Ambience
With a casual vibe, Veronica’s is a modern space with pop colours. Buzzing with people making the cafe feel like a community space, and stand out even more. As soon as you walk in your eyes are greeted by the sight of black and white painted cats in every corner and a Bandra Bulletin board that lets you put up everything from finding roommates to putting up your small little scribbled artwork. The cafe also retails coffee, in two varieties.
What we tried
We started our meal with their kombucha—Flower Power which consisted of green tea, rose to give you that fruity punch. Next up was Burra Burra Bowl a summery bowl that genuinely satisfies your tastebuds and consists of burrata, tomatoes, and crispy quinoa, drizzled with a basil emulsion. Next, we decided to try the famous The Big Floyd, a Nashville-style hot fried chicken burger with a tamarind ranch and pickles. We also tried their Italian Job sandwich which was smoked ham in ciabatta bread. And to wash down all that meat and bread you can pick from their variety of wine options that are available based on your mood and palate, right from fruity and bubbly to easy peasy and crunchy.
What worked
The Big Floyd burger which is an ode to the owner's late friend and mentor Chef Floyd Cardoz took us by surprise with the perfectly cooked chicken that was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The Italian Job sandwich had the freshest ham with the goodness of ciabatta all put together well.
What didn’t work
While the place is a food haven for sandwich lovers if you’re looking for a light snack during the day this place may not be the best with its limited food options.
Our verdict
The all-day menu impressed us and what we also have to give to them is the expansive breakfast choices both savoury and sweet that consist of over 20 dishes. This deli is definitely here to stay.
