Method

  • Soak the dal in half cup of water for 15mins.
  • Put the soaked dal in the pressure cooker.
  • Add turmeric powder and asafoetida powder to the dal.
  • To ensure dal is cooked keep it for 3 whistles.
  • Open the cooker only once it has cooled.

For the Tadka

  • Heat 1 tbsp Ghee and add Cumin seeds, Mustard seeds, Asafoetida and Curry leaves. Stir it until all crackle.
  • Add the Dal and Salt to taste. Simmer for 5 mins.
  • Serve it hot with steamed Rice or Roti.
