Potatoes are a great party food.

Everyone loves potatoes. And why not? This simple vegetable is one of the most versatile of its kind. You can fry it, bake it, roast it, even mash it and still taste amazing. Right from French fries to mashed potatoes, potato is a crowd favourite.

Potatoes also make for a great party food. No matter what your guests prefer, potatoes have got it covered. We tell you five different ways of cooking with them.

Potato Waffles

You can make these potato waffles for Christmas breakfast. All you need to do is grate a few potatoes, and then add them to a muslin cloth and squeeze out all the liquid. Put these grated potatoes into a waffle maker and cook until crisp on both sides. Serve with grated cheese and barbeque sauce.

Roasted Baby Potatoes

A party is incomplete without great appetisers and that's exactly what these delicious roasted potatoes are. Start by washing the baby potatoes and putting them on a baking try. To these, add oil, salt, pepper, chili powder, oregano and dried basil. Put them in the oven until cooked well and brown on top. Serve with a mayo dip. The perfect snack to serve at your Christmas party.

Jacket Potatoes

Jacket potatoes can win all the praises at your Christmas dinner. To make this, take one big potato or four small ones. Slice them in the middle but make sure to not cut all the way through. Season with oil, salt and pepper and put them in the oven. Take them out off the oven once cooked, stuff in some baked beans, cheese, chopped cooked meats and coriander. Put them in the oven again until the cheese melts. Serve hot.

Scalloped Potatoes

These make for a great side dish for any party. Start by adding thinly sliced potatoes at the bottom of a well-greased baking dish. Add flour, butter and cheese on this, and top that with another layer of sliced potatoes. Add in more flour, butter and cheese and pour in some milk. Sprinkle pepper on top and bake it until the potatoes are tender. Garnish with chopped coriander and serve.

Potato Croutons

These add great crunch to all your favourite soups and salads. Start by cutting the potatoes into small cubes. Put them on a baking tray and season with oil, salt and pepper. Mix well and put them into the oven until golden brown and crisp. Better than bread croutons, what do you think?
