Ginger is the one spice that can always be found in an Indian home. Be it appetizers, dessert or even medicine, this root can do the job. Now, while our curries and veggies are incomplete without it, there's a lot more you can do with this versatile spice. Let us show you some unconventional uses.

Here are 5 ways that you can use the ginger in your kitchen to make many different dishes.

Ginger Hot Chocolate

A hot cuppa a day makes the blues go away!

To make this, heat milk and water in a saucepan. Whisk in cocoa powder, salt and powdered ginger while stirring vigorously. Pour in some vanilla extract and let it simmer. Once everything is well incorporated, pour the hot chocolate in a glass and serve.

Ginger Cookies

Always keep a jar of freshly baked cookies handy!

Begin with whisking together flour, ground ginger, cinnamon, baking soda and salt. Add brown sugar and butter in a large bowl along with egg, grated ginger, vanilla and ginger powder and beat well. Mix this together to form a dough and roll it out. Cut cookie shapes and bake them until slightly golden brown. Coat with castor sugar and serve.

In a blender, add chickpeas, tahini paste, olive oil and lemon juice until well-combined. Give it a mix and add salt, grated ginger and pepper powder. Mix until everything is well incorporated. Chill and serve with some pita or carrot sticks.

Give your sweet tooth a surprise with this scoop of ice-cream.

To make this, whip together heavy cream and condensed milk until thick in consistency. Add ginger and cinnamon powder along with powdered sugar and a pinch of salt. Mix until everything is well combined. Top it with some grated ginger and keep it in the freezer for about four hours or until set. Scoop and serve.
