Oats porridge is quick to make.

One of the most versatile foods with a boring reputation, plain oats are usually known to be bland and tasteless. However, that does not need to be the case every time. Right from cookies to porridge, a lot can be prepared with oats.

So get out your pack of oats and get cooking.

Oats Cookies

Nothing beats chocolate chip cookies, but honestly these are just as good.

In a large bowl, add rolled oats, sliced almonds, flour, ginger powder, cinnamon powder, salt and mix well. Pour in milk, vanilla extract, honey and melted butter. Combine everything together and scoop out small portions of the mix. Place it on a baking tray lined with butter paper and bake in the oven until slightly golden brown. Serve with milk.

Oats Upma

Replace the semolina with oats and you have a healthier breakfast instantly.

In a heated pan, add oil, whole oats, turmeric and sauté. Take it out on a plate and keep aside. In the same pan, add oil, mustard seeds, curry leaves, salt, red and green chillies and mix well. Add in onions, carrots and peas along with the oats, mix and let it cook. Pour in some water and let it cook for a while. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve.

Oats Porridge

For all those days when you are too lazy to prep for an entire meal, a bowl of hot porridge is all you need.

In a heavy bottom pan, add steel cut oats, milk, water and sugar. Mix well and let it cook until the consistency is thick. Add cinnamon powder and chopped nuts. Serve your oats porridge hot.

Oats Chilla

Make your breakfast a little more interesting and healthy with these Indian chillas.

Take a large bowl and mix together roasted whole grain oats powder, buttermilk, chilli powder, cumin powder, salt and ginger paste. Pour this onto a flat pan and cook well on both sides. Serve with a chutney or sauce.

Oats Idli

Take the quintessential South Indian favourite, fondly known as idlis and give it a twist.

In a heated pan, add oil, mustard seeds, urad dal, cumin seeds and chana dal. Sauté and add the chopped carrots. Mix well and let it cook. Then add semolina, let it cook and transfer it to a bowl. Add whole grain oats powder, salt, curd, water and mix until thick. Pour into idli maker and steam.
